What does your health have to do with getting organized?

I’ve been MIA from¬†#TheDeclutterCleanse¬†for a few weeks.

Why? Because apparently, life had another lesson for me to learn.

Me¬†trying¬†to enjoy a day out shopping with mom this summer. Unfortunately, I got sick later that night…

I’ve been¬†living with pain in the right side of my abdomen, back and shoulder for most of the year. I’ve been downplaying it – thinking I could solve the problem by watching what I ate. Over time, the pain intensified. I would get what Dr. Google called “gallbladder attacks” very late at night. I’ve never had children, but let’s just say I considered this intense gallbladder pain preparation for labor pains – it was that bad.

At first, the attacks didn’t come that often – over a 6 month period they started visiting once a month, then twice a month, then weekly. What sent me to the ER was the back-to-back attacks. After 3 in a row, during my second visit to the emergency room, the doctors finally decided it really needed to come out. I was kept overnight¬†and scheduled for surgery the very next day.

I share all of this because I’m the type of person who’s not going to sit down unless my health makes me. You may even be the same way…

But now that I’ve had the surgery, all I can think about is how much time and energy I wasted by ignoring my health. I mean…

  • I had low energy and was wanting to nap all the time.
  • I was doing a ton of emotional eating and gaining weight as a result.
  • I was being stubborn and didn’t want to pay for surgery.
  • I also didn’t want to change my diet after the surgery.
  • It sounds silly, but I also wanted to keep all of my organs!

Yall, this stubbornness was costing me my life.

And I don’t mean I was on the verge of dying – I just mean I couldn’t ENJOY my life. On this earth, all we have is our time, and I was wasting my time feeling miserable.

Sometimes, life gives us signs and opportunities for improvement. I consider this gallbladder experience my wake-up call…

  • I will no longer prioritize anything over my health.
  • I will not let the fear of the unknown stop me from doing what I know¬†needs to be done.
    • For example, I didn’t know how I would pay for surgery if I needed it but now that it’s done I realize those ‘what if’ and “how” questions never really mattered. I can’t put a price on my health and I feel so great now that I’m not worried.
  • I realize my happiness includes and requires me to be in good health.
    • Managing my weight, and not doing a ton of emotional eating is crucial to my self-esteem. I am happier and healthier when I prioritize¬†nourishing food over comfort food. It’s that simple!

What does all this have to do with organizing?

Well, clutter is usually an indicator that we need to “let go” of negative things in our life. I had to let go of my pride, my fears, and my gallbladder!

If you walked into my house during the time I was sick, you’d notice it was a mess. I wasn’t my usual tidy self. The clutter in my space was a sign that something was off with me – in this case, something was off with my health.

It’s easy to accumulate clutter and live a messy life if you’re not feeling physically or emotionally well…

If your home, office, or car is cluttered Рask yourself: what do I need to let go of? What do I need to do to finish the year strong?

  • Who do you need to release?
  • What habits do you need to replace?
  • What fears do you need to face?

And don’t be afraid to ask for help! Have friends and family support your goal to declutter – or let me help! Simply select a package¬†from my website that will help you get organized.
